i have an 89 RS with a 2.8L motor. when i try to start the car nothing happens. sometimes i keep trying and maybe like 1 out of 20 tries it will start. all the lights come on and the car will start with a remote starter. i have the security key but other keys do not work. i was thinking maybe the security system went bad after i changed the ignition switch no no avail. any ideas of what to test?

 

what i would first is check fire, spark or fuel. then check from there i would check the distributor module, or the computer.

 

Adam, give me some more info..when you say doesn't start do you mean everything works but not even a click? See my recent posting to user name "Error_505", sounds like the same problem. Read my post and respond if you need to, we have an '89 and based on your short description, I have had the exact problem in the past. Remember if your security system works correctly, only the correct key with the resistor in it will start the car. A remote starter system bypasses the PassKey system, otherwise the key would have to be left in it to start it.
