I posted "the dreded fuel pump" thread and thanx to all you guys i got it all done and put back together BUT>>>>>>>..... [:@]it still has the same problem[:@]....any suggestions? its starts up fine and runs fine the first time you start it after is has been sitting all night andit runs ok for about three min then startsto buck and cut outwith any kind of throttleat all it just cuts out untill you let off the gas then it goes back down to an idle and it will sit there and idle fine all day butas soon as you touch the gas it dies out![:@][:@][:@]

 

Put a fuel pressure gage on it and see what pressure you have. As it is a TPI engine, here is some guidelines.
1) with the key on & engine off the line pressure to the gage should be about 36 PSI .
2) engine running at idle about 36/40 PSI
3) wide open about 44 PSI
4) engine off the fuel pressure about 40 PSI should take about a half hour to drop down to zero.

But if you don't have pressure with just the key you have problems back at the pump.

I have fixed FP gage under the hood to check my fuel pressure. It is a big help.

One other item, did you try replacing the fuel pump relay on the firewalll???
A $15 part and the general location in the picture.

 

What else have you done to the car?

 

i have done nothing else to the car the guy that had it befor me just had the upper and lower intake gaskets done and he said that it had a cam but it does not sound like there is one and he couldnt tell me a size or produce a reciept. He just said it was mild soyour guess is as good as mine.I just have always wanted one of these cars and i got a good price on it bc the guy that owned it had just done those gaskets and this was his second car and he wanted to get a four wheeler i had one so we traded i dont mind putting some money in it i just want to get it right!

 

also i have not done the fuel pump relay bc i was told the pump would not work at all if the relay was bad.....

 

Did u replace the fuel pump filter? I have a problem with a vette and was doing the samething?

Also check your fuel pressure regulator.

 

yep i did the filter also but not the regulator where is it located and how do i know if it is bad
