Default I dissconnected the timing connector......

On the last post i was having a problem with the timing. I found out that I may have bad spark plug wires and need to change the spark plugs and wires, but I have a problem with the jerking of the car. It might be a miss fire, which leads me to believe the wires are bad. Now when I unplugged the timing connector I was able to Time the car to where its supposed to be and then I plug the connector back in and its fine, minus the jerking. The trouble starts when I turn off the car after plugging the timing connector back in, it advances the timing and the check engine light goes off. I cant seem to get the PROM chip to reset like i thought it would and I cant have the car running without the timing connector connected. Is there a way to solve this problem? PLEASE REPLY...............thanks

disconnect the battery for at least 20 seconds. that resets the PCM. and also , your suposed to turn the car off , then reconnect the connector. unplug it with the car off and plug it in the car off, not with the engine running or the key on.

thanks, ill have to check it tomorrow..also do you think the jerking could be from the old spark plugs?I checked one and the gap is a little wider than it should be, but the burn color is clean. It hasnt had a tuneup for at least a year. If I change that I know I will get more power back as well...

start with a good tune-up... plugs, wires , cap, rotor, air filer, pcv valve, and fuel filter. if that doesn't help, at least you know all that is good.
