From what I read one company tried but they tried to "Cut" cost and it failed. When Smokey built the motor is used the best parts out there then made them better. There was no way to produce a "production" version. Each engine would have had a race engine price tag. But that was then, it should be manufacturability now. Also there could be emission concerns we are unaware of.
Kind of reminds of the guy that came up with the idea of B1 bomber (the flying wind), he wanted to build it as a cargo plane. He failed, not because the design was bad but because manufacturing and computer technologies he had available to him where not good enough. History shows us he was 25 years ahead of his time. LOL there could 800 hp tanks running around that get 20 MPG. Time will tell.
