how hard is it to find sway arm bushings?
Ive got my front end all but buttoned up. Last step was to replace the sway bar bushings....so I got in my handy dandy SUV and made the 5 minute trip to NotsoAdvanced Auto......
Counter girl "well sir, is it 1', 1 1/4, 1 3/16ths, 30, 32,or 34 MM?"
Me "uhhhhh, lemme look at the old part'....'old part looks like it could be any of those......'
So I drive back home and put a micrometer on the sway bar. (The 25 year old sway bar that is covered in dirt, scale, peeling paint and a quarter century of other assorted nasty)...Mic reads 1.247, 1.254, and 1.252.....So Im guessing that its 1 and 1/4 inch. BUT! When I do the metric conversion, it comes very close to 32 MM!!!
Pimp Boys just shook their head.
VatoZone told me they cant get the part.
NAPA told me they had one that they were 'almost sure would fit'....in Georgia. (Im in upstate NY)
Summit online doesnt even mention the 1 1/4 option.....
Very rarely do I go to a Chevy dealer for parts....this is gonna be one of those times! Good thing we get 6 months of snow up here, that might be how long its gonna take me to finish this suspension project.
And my FAVORITE part of the day was when I said to the kid at VatoZone "Its for a 1982 Z28 Camaro....".......He asked me "Who makes that car?".......as his fingers gracefully entered "Buick".....

Man, I didn't have any confusing problems like that when I replaced the ones on my 91. All I did was...go to Auto Zone, bought the Energy Suspension sway link kit, part #9.8117R (for red). They worked with no problems at all. As far as I recall, there was only one recommended sway bar end link to fit my car anyway.

Get the 1 3/16 bushings. You think a bushing is gonna notice a 1/16 difference. And end link bushings is end link bushings. There may bo a difference only in the length of the bolt and spacer tube which can be cut if too long.

I had just picked out bushings. In no part of his post did I see any mention of 32mm end links. [8D]Those bushings should work. In fact he should use the 31.5mm bushing because they would be closer to 1/14

There are two sets in your size Scott. The difference is in the bolt hole spacing on the brackets.

Yeah.....thats exactly what Im talking about....
My local dealer is pretty good to me. Ill try him tomo morning. Im sure the 31 mm option will work, but I just wanna make sure I get the exact part. With all the problems Ive had with this suspension, I want to rule every possible cause out.

I just measured with an open end wrench and used the universal Energy suspension greasable on my car........Hey, how did we end up looking for all your parts Scott? I have a feeling you were just fibbing about not finding them so we would do it for you! [:'(]
