MY 82 Camaro has a retro-fitted TH350 tranny installed. The speedo does not work. Ive checked the head unit and all cables, they are good. What parts do I need to swap/replace to make it work? Ive read a breif account somewhere about replacing driven gear and driving gear, but Id like something a little clearer. Pics would be geat. Thanks.

 

The spedometer gears are where the spedometer cable is connected to the transmission, usually on the tailshaft. The spedometer gears need to be matched to your rear end gears and tire size to get accurate readings.

 

Is it just a drop in replacement? Im not worried about exact calibration, I just want the thing to work. The cable plugs into the housing and everything, but the speedo isnt turning....

 

Yes, they just drop in, and they come in various sizes. Have you checked the cable is not broken and properly engaged in the spedometer. Atttach a drill motor to the transmission end of the cable &ssee if the spedo registers. Spin the drill in both directions to be sure.
