high heat issue...
I just replaced my thermostat with a 180 degree one. I replaced my radiator fan switch with a 180-220 degree switch. My car STILL gets way to hot for my comfort. The temp. read close to 240 before the fan kicked on and it dropped to 220 before rising again. The only way i can keep it down is to have the heat on, and that isnt gonna be cool when its 90 degrees outside!!
So, with a new thermostat and fan switch whats next to keep the temp lower??

my fan has never kicked on at 220, always around 240. i'm planning a flush here in teh next week, but would that couse th ehigh heat issue? I'm mainly worried about why the fan isnt coming on when it should

Too low a T-stat and it will not close to allow the water to stay in the radiator and cool. 180 is not too low.
An important thing that gets looked over is the lower air deflecter attached to the bottom of the radiator suport. It needs to be there.
V8? Antother thing that can be done is get a high volume water pump. You ave to make sure though if you have a serpintine belt then you have reverse flow and need to replace the pump with the correct one. Or you can buy the cavitation plate or make one that makes your pump into a high volum. It just gets attached to the impeller in the pump.

Try to run some water through the radiator from the back side to the front to flush the fins (not sure if fins are what you call them)do it with very littlewater pressure and do nottouch the fins to much pressure will bend them fix any bent fins with a fin tool. i did this with my both my truck and it made a world of differance. also see if your air damn under the car is in good condition not craked or missing. also check or replace your temp sending unit

You could check with a thermometer to see if your gauge is telling the truth, it could be off. My 91 just started acting up and the fan isn't going on as it should. If you have A/C (whether or not your A/C works), turn your controls on the the A/C mode, and the fan should go on. That's what I'm doing until I get it figured out.
Since the original gauges suck at best, I'm putting aftermarket mechanical gauges in mine. I just don't trust the factory ones.

Flushing the system by changing out the fluidsand back flushing it i understood that i was talking aboutunplugging the fins or vains by removing the bugs and dirt that somtimes plug up the system. removing the radiator is theeasiest way to do it

i do turn on the a/c and the fan still doesnt kick on until about 240. i can hear it but the temp will read 220 then start rising as soon as it shuts off. I'm thinking the motor may be weak??...

When I turn on my A/C, even if the engine is cold, the fan will go on. With the A/C, the normal fan function is bypassed so the fan will run to compensate for the extra load that the compressor puts on the engine. Sumpin ain't working right with yours.
