Sorry I haven't updated this for awhile, real life took over for a couple of weeks...
So, I took my car to a well-respected shop. My dad & brother (mechanics) have been taking cars to this guy for trans and rear end work for 20+ years. We know him well and trust him.
He took the cover off and inspected everything. I was at work, so he talked to my brother first and then I spoke to him later. We were both in a hurry so I didn't write anything down, sorry if some of these are the wrong terms. Anyway...
He said that the locker was shot. Also said that the clutches (?) for the posi were broken up and that the gear on one side was all chewed up (which I saw for myself when I changed the fluid). He wouldn't know about the bearings until taking everything apart but suspected that they would be bad, too. Oh, the gears in the car were a 3.42 ratio.
Looked around for a good used, but nothing in my area. Most likely going to have him rebuild entire differential and install 3.73 gears.
