I wouldn't go ripping into the distributor, just yet.
1) Code 12 is a diagnostic code that ALL OBD1 vehicles will receive. It means there is no distributor signal to the ECM. And that's because....the engine isn't running.
2) Code 15, coolant temperature sensor or circuit fault.
3) Code 43, a problem with your Electronic Spark Timing circuit (your distributor, ECM, and wiring). And/or a problem with your Electronic Spark Control (Knock Sensor and related wiring).
4) Code 44, lean exhaust detected.
Of all those, the only one that makes any sense to me for a no-start condition would be the code 43, EST. I suppose it could be a bad distributor module, since it has to communicate with the ECM. But it could also be a bad wiring connection between the two, or corrosion on the distributor module connections. I would first check all your wiring and connections related to the ignition system before tearing into the distributor and spending money on a module. Not saying it isn't a module, but might as well go with the free fixes first.

 

My stepdaughter had all kinds of troulbe out of her cavalier and it wound up being the coolant temp sensor.

 

I just "googled" symtoms of a faulty coolant temp sensor and this is what it said: Slightly rough idle and hard to start when warm. Maybe thats part of it. somethings up with it or it wouldnt send the code. I'm sure if you fix what the codes are you will get it lined out.

alright if you take a look at this video you can see it is missing really bad so i think i am going to pull to distributor cap considering its the easy est to get at

so i took a closer look at the spark plugs wires and they look like **** so i think when i get paid this Friday i am going to go out and buy new plugs new wires new dist cap and rotor and see if that fixes it (cause the wires look like **** and plugs are pretty dirty) and if it still doesn't work prolly go for the ignition module give me your input would this be a good place to start?

 

That would have probably been the first thing to check. If they look bag and the plugs are bad, that would be your hard starting and bad idle.

 

Yep, bad plug wires would make the engine act up, especially on rainy/damp days.

 

we tried grounding the coil to see if it was getting spark off the coil. Cranked it over and no spark. One more thing... I put a new ignition module in, and was curious if the module is somehow grounded through its mounting screws. They were very rusty and so was the old module, just wondering if new screws and a clean mounting place would help the situation...

 

Alright guys got a new ignition module and put that on and now she drives perfect thanks for all your input and help now i can finally enjoy my camaro
