Default Help buying an '86 camaro

Im looking at an 86 camaro. I do not have pictures and have not visited the car yet but i will describe what i know. I dont know if it is an rs, z28, etc... New paint job because the hood paint faded. One small spot of bondo was discovered when it was repainted. The only rust is a little on the inside of the doors. The exhaust system is practically non-existent. I need to buy a new catalytic converter and replace from the cat through the rest of the exhaust (any idea on cost for this). The headline on the inside of the car was taken out because it was drooping down. The car only has 56000 miles on it and has spent most of its life in inside storage. The transmission mount on it was cracked and replaced (6 dollar part). Can i expect more mounts and gaskets to go one me? Seller is asking 2500. I know that is way to high so what is a fair price to pay? Please respond if you can be of any help. I am going to see the car and negotiate on sunday and i would really like to be prepared with information so i can get a good deal or so i can know if i should even spend my time looking at this camaro. Thank you.

every camaro is worth looking at, but with the stuff you described like the interior and exhaust. i wouldn't pay more than 1000 for it

Remember you are buying a 21 year old car. It didn't come off the showroom floor yesterday and it will have problems. $2500 depends on the previous history, such as 2 or more young owners and how hard it was used.

sounds like a fairly decent project, but nothing that cant be done in your garage. Price all the parts you need or want to replace, and go from there. as said by the other two posters, its an older car and problems are to be expected. Only way i can think of a tranny mount cracking with such low mileage is that it was run HARD. Chances are it will have the 305 tbi in it, as it was a very popular motor. Unless its a Z28 or IROC-Z, then it could have the 350 TPI. If he dosent know what the motor is, first thing, and most obvious, is pop the hood and look for yourself. If its a v-8 of some sort, check the transmission, if its the t-5 ( manual ) it is the 305, they didnt put the t-5 behind the 350, it simply wasnt strong enough.

The headliners are somewhat cheep, Ebay has them with sail panels and new visors for around 300 i believe.

Also, be sure to start it up before you make even say a price. If it wont even run, take it down to 800 and work from there. If it runs, but poorly, maybe 1000 or 1200. It will probably just need a tuneup, but i wouldnt take the chance, as others have found out on this website, an engine that has sat for awhile is prone to accidents.

56000 origonalmiles? i wouldcheck it out and snag that **** up! its prolly a 305 so dont get your hopes upthat its a 350 i think theyput out like 200 350s that year, or maybe im wrong butim shure it was a low number. and a tip for buying a camaro, or any sports car, dont be afraid to get down on your hands and knees to check the frame! you want a car with a straight frame NO EXEPTIONS!!!!!! if you feel wrinkles, or if its bent in some way, i suggest u cut your losses and go home so you dont waste any more time. also i suggest you get the VIN # and run a carfax report on it. that would also be helpful to your desision.
