Hiya I was searching around the internet looking for a soulution to this frustrating problem that I am having, when I saw this website i figured maybe y'all could help
. So a little about the car itself: I have a 1990 RS that I bought from my sister with a 305, 700R4 and Edelbrock 1826 Thunder 650 CFM 4 Barrel w/ electric choke, the engine is a crate motor and the transmission is brand new (less then 10k miles) the carb was pulled from her husbands C10's 400 small block in perfect working order. Now the Problem. The car will start and run but will not shift properly, usually around 5000 rpms will it shift from 1st to 2nd and that is on a flat road. going up a hill it will bog down untill it sounds as if the engine is only doing 50 rpm... and when that happens it just quits. It will not start again untill I get it on a level or a declinded surface. also if it helps when i finnaly got the car turned around after the 2nd time of it doing this on the hill I got it to shift all way to 3rd but the tranny still waited to shift untill around 4500 rpms. I am honestly baffled I have no idea what to do... anyone?

Sounds to me like you have two problems:
1. Not the best carb for that motor, too big, and you may need to adjust floats, and jetting.
2. If you have an original replacement trans its a 4L60E/700R4. It is very important to make sure that the TV cable is adjusted properly, at it does more than act as a kickdown. It controls line pressure amongst other things.
Just gotta ask, are you sure that your tach is correct? Tachometers of 90-92 have a propensity for reading incorrectly.

i have a feeling the old carb may have been partly electronic and was used to help the trany shift. check to see if the tv cable is hooked up and adjusted properly.

Well I took a look the the car again. I'm not sure if the tach is reading right so I'm playing it by ear untill payday, because if I close the vlaves to much the engine stalls out but if I open them only a small amount it seems to idle higher then 1500. As for the floats to be honest this is the first carburated engine that I have worked on so I don't even know what that is... I know noob lol. But anyways the TV cables was not set right so I adjusted that. I might not have it completly right because its still not shifting at the right times and speed but it is slightly better. Yet it still dies on hills...
first off does he carb have an adaptor on the throttle linkage of the carb--bolt on--.
like this
Holley Carb Adapter - TV Cable Corrector Bracket Kit
if it does then go to bowtie overdrives and read up.
when i went to a carb on my 305 rs engine (1992) i had to play with the cable to get it correct. did the standard adjustment by pulling it all the way in then flooring it. then had to pull it out a couple a notches at a time till it was right.,
