Default Header/Y-pipe bang for buck

So whats the best bang for bug header/Y-pipe combo out there for the 3rd gen. Looking around it looks like flowtech is cheap for just over 260 bucks for the combo. And Paceseter is right in there as well. But like most guys out here i am not looking for a cheap peace of crap just the best bang for the buck. So any experince from guys running headers and such please drop in.

i bought the hedman header and matching y-pipe and didnt have very good luck with it. the header primaries rub the frame rail on the passenger side, and the y-pipe was no where close to matching the collectors and required cutting and welding to fit. it is also smaller than the factory y-pipe. even though its advertised at 2.5", the actual outside diamer was only 2 3/8". the factory y-pipe on my car was 2" by 3" oval. thats my experience with them

I can only speak from my limited experience with 3rd gens and I had zero issues with hedman shorties and y pipe.

So there you are, mixed reviews over the same product.

These cars are old so do a search on many forums and you'll find tons and tons and tons of hits regarding exhaust.

IMHO, it's a topic that is beaten to death because it's an easy mod.

i think my issue came from it not being a stock engine. aluminum heads arent positioned the same as the factory unit and could be why it doesnt clear. oil pan clearence was an issue using a non f-body oil pan, but my hedman setup is tempory anyway

I've been happy with my ceramic coated edelbrocks so far. I picked them up with a 3inch y pipe for 150 used. If you need to pass emissions you'll be limited to Hooker 2055's or Edelbrock TES.
