Default auto shifter removal

My brother's having trouble figuring out how to remove the shift ****. It looks like the same thing as on my '96, but mine has a pin thing that you pull out, but my brother can't seem to find something like that on his. How do you get it off?

Small "U" shaped clip the size of a sm paper clip bend in the front of the shift **** toward the dash. May be enbedded in the leather, so use needle noised pliers for removal.

My brother's car is an '86, so it has the round shift ****. I think the clip you're referring to is only on the square-shaped *****.

on my 86, the button is held in with a metal clip, and can be pulled out. there is a snap ring inside of the know. however, mine has been broken since i bought it and falls down on its own. i think the snap ring is inside of a groove inside the ****. what is it you need to take it off for?

Pull the button out then look inside and there should be a clip on the top of the shifter. Take the clip off then the ball should slide off the top. On the square shifters the clip is on the outside on the ball shifter it's on the inside. Hope this helps.
