grinding noise
ok guys, would appreciate any input or help.
Got a 91 305 five speed camaro.
Couple of days ago started making a grinding noise shifting gears when it got up to temperature. But if i put my foot on the clutch wait a few seconds itll slip right into gear no problem. I changed the lube in the trans today. Its got a new clutch and kit on it. Hoping its not the trans.
Thanks,
Reggie

If it was a disengagement problem, I wouldn't expect it to shift without crunching at all.
I've had that same problem before, with a high mileage trans. Changing the oil helped, but it still did it. I had to put in heavier gear oil to stop it. The problem was the trans was worn and sloppy inside. After pushing in the clutch pedal, the gears remained free-wheeling longer than they should have. The thicker oil slowed the gears down faster due to the extra resistance. Not saying yours is that way, but it sounds like it.

Mine that I was referring to was a different trans that required 10w30 motor oil. So I just put in straight 50 weight. Yours is designed to use Dexron trans fluid. I don't want to try to steer you away from what is recommended. I just know what I would try if the Dexron wasn't keeping the trans from crunching. Getting it rebuilt might be eminent, but might not be necessary yet. I'd have to say that the main reasons Dexron is used is because of it's viscosity stability, it's less apt to foam or aerate, and for less drag giving better fuel economy.
That's not to say that a good grade gear oil won't work. (Lucas is a good gear-climbing oil)
But I would research it more and find out if anybody else has any experience (not just opinions) with not using Dexron in these transmissions.

i put some diff fluid in it, and it has helped a lot but i think i have broke a shifting fork or a synchro.
They dont make it easy to rebuild one of these transmissions, has anyone got any advice or have done one before?
Thanks
