got a question about a 400 turbo tranny
i know i posted this in the classics forum but i figured i'd get an answer quicker on here because theres more traffic here but : in a month when i have the money saved up , im buying a 1979 camaro project car off a person i know for 850.00 . he had a v8 in it which seized on him due to sitting, the transmission which is a 400 turbo transmission has been rebuilt, but hasnt been installed for a while he said ( didnt exactly say how long). my question is: How long can a rebuilt transmission sit without being installed and ran before it needs rebuilt again?
bro he lied to u,. a motor wont just seize for no reason my dad and i have a 8second ss nova. we baught it off a junk it was sitting at for ((10YEARS)) and still got it started to get it home to re-build. so to answer ur question if something it built CORRECTLY it will not just seaze. so if it was done right it should be fine.
well he didnt really say it seized, thats just the word i used at the time cause i couldnt come up with any thing else. but it did sit for a long time and he pulled the motor to rebuild it but after he pulled the motor and tranny, he had other priorities and put the camaro to the back burner.
bullcrap ... rust buildup on the cylinders walls of a tight motor can keep it from turning over i assure you. for lack of better words the motor would be siezed. Sick
no spark plugs would cause cylinder rust as well was open valves. condensation builds up on metal surfaces during temperature changes. humid areas can be especially troublesome to an engine that sets up for extended periods of time. Sick
he didnt say the motor was rebuilt, jus the tranny.
if the tranny was built right and kept some where safe and out of weather and all that junk you should be good. Jus make sure its got a filter and what not.

The only way to know for sure is to tear it down. You'll find out then. The 400 turbo should be plugged if it's a fresh rebuild so it could sit for a long while.
