Default Good price for a three-fiddy?

In my ongoing search for another engine, I came across a friend of a friend who has a

...350, bored .040 over. Crank has been turned, pistons are some type of flat top upgrade ( I forget the name) . Block was decked, it has a Mellings RV camshaft and 'truck' heads. The guy says the motor was built for good ole fashioned low end grunt. ( All Im gonna do with the car is stop light to stop light....) The engine was assembled, test run and never installed. He wants 1 grand for it, complete from pan to covers. This guy is reputable source. Is this a good deal?

Hope so, cause I told him I was gonna buy it.....

sounds to me like a damn good deal! i found a rebuilt longblock for 1100 and that was cheap for a 350. I'd go for it!

Its gotta be one hell of a good price. What kind of rebuild? Refreshed or truly rebuilt? Whats it got in it? How do you plan to get it to me here in Syracuse, NY. ( Im open to discussion, let me know...)

Did the guy tell you how many Horses she was pushing. That sounds to good to be true I would look into it and if you don't want it I might be interested.

HP don't mean **** if all the torque is down low. That motor will litteraly shut down at about 4600-4800. I have one of these motors in my truck built just like what you're describing, 300HP 400+ TQ before I hit 4600 RPM. It's perfect for my truck with 33's, dual lockers, and 4.10's, but, I've outrun them in cars on the street with my worn out 350 Z28. Unless you're geared in the 2.50's that motor is useless in a car. Don't get me wrong, it's a good deal, if it gose in a truck. But then I would have to ask why it's not in his truck.

Doesnt a Camaro run in the 1500-4500 rpm range? Im not looking for a dragster, just a fun car that will smoke 'em off the light. Whats gonna happen? Will I hit the gas, FLY to 35 mph and then go flat? Explain, because this guy seems to thin kit will make a great street motor....
