Default gas consumption

I have a 89 rs, automatic. I filled the tank a couple days ago and 175 miles later, it was about empty...1/8th tank left to be exact. The car has new tires, properly inflated; new spark plugs; plug wires; hoses; o2 sensor andbattery...do i need a newair filter? how about a fuel filter?

Also, i dont "race" the car or drive like an idiot. With gas prices well into the $3 range, i cant afford to mash the gas pedal

I change the air filter about every other oil change. the shop rig's we change every oil change just because of where we drive them. i would have a diagnostics test done. it might just need some adjusting could be in the timing.

Forget the gage, calulate your mileage on your next fill up. You do know how do it??? On your set up the mileage should be about 18/20 in the city and about 26 on the highway. My guess.

Blackz87 is on the right track, you need to track mileage not Fuel gauge. Gauges have been know to be very, very off. They are not exact instruments. My truck runs out of gas at a 1/4 tank :P. I have had 2nd gen's that would go another 100 miles when the need hit empty.

what you have to do is fill the gas tank to the brim. then calculate how many miles the car has (or use the trip odometer if it is accurate). then drive the car for a while until you need gas again. then fill it to the brim again. see how many gallons of gas you put in. then divide the mileage by the amount of gallons you used. so you put 12 gallons in at the pump. you drove 240 miles. that's 20mpg. get it?

thanks guys, i'll try the calculations....my gas gauge does jump up and down alot...it'll say full right after i fill up, and then if i stop at a stop sign or go down a hill the needle drops to like 1/2 tank.

My 3.4L gets Roughly 153-170 miles to a full tank... And Its a Manual. Ive changed Plugs, coil packs, wires, fuel filter, and I recharge my K&N and while the gas mileage improved somewhat with the coil packs but still not a vast improvement.

Btw I love age84's camaro very nice

Mine does that too- just stay still for awhile on a flat surface, that'll do the trick :P

Also run a very good injector cleaner through it and see if that helps

Thank for the compliment 94CamaroSFI
