Fan wont turn on unless a/c is on
Help Please!
I have a 92 RS with a 3.1 and an auto tranny with just over 100,000
My car overheats anytime it is at a long stoplight or a drivethrough because the radiator fan will not turn on.
I can make the fan come on by either turning on the a/c or unplugging the coolant temp sensor.
I have replaced the relays, coolant temp sensor and the ECM(twice).
I just am not sure what else it could be.
Please help!
Thanks!

dont trust the factory gauge for an accurate temp. ive encountered a few that read off by +/- 30 degrees. what temp is it reaching, what is its normal operating temp, and is a single or dual fan setup?
Turn the key to the "on" position and check the temp sensor to ensure you're getting voltage to it. No voltage means no fan. Once you're sure the sensor has voltage, then let it idle until the temp gets high enough for the sensor to close and check to see you're getting voltage to the fan. The fan motor might be gonzo.
Thanks microkid but the temps are all accurate. The car runs at around 180 and will get as hot as you will let it.
Also thanks 1971bb427 but the fan works when I disconnect the temp sensor or turn the a/c on, so the fan motor must still be good. There is power to the sensor and when unplugged the engine light comes on.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!
