fan question
ok so for some weird reason, my fan only goes on when the AC is on[&:] i know that grounding the right relay with the green wire will put the fan on, my question is, how do i wire a switch so it gets grounded? is it just like any other switch were you have a power and a ground then the REM wire (the ground from the fan) or do i need double grounds or something else, is there even a way?
You can just run a switch but instead of power to the switch one side to a ground and the other to the wire that needs ground. You can tap into the wire needing the ground and that way you are not taking away from its original circuit and adding a ground to ground wont hurt like if you add a hot to a hot.
It's possible the temperature sensor may be bad too. At least on TPI's, the temp sensor will tell the computer the temp and when it is 224°, the fans kick on and they will run until the temp is at 219°. If that sensor is bad, it won't kick them on. The fans automatically run when you turn the A/C on because you're putting more load on the engine when you run the A/C. I know some guys who have unplugged the A/C compressor and turned the A/C on to run the fans to keep the motor cool in the summer without actually running the A/C.
I did that with my saturn for a while, and it worked quite nicely, except for in the rain, when I needed the AC on for defogger use.
I don't remember if it was actually supposed to or not, but my 91 TBI had a hot in run, a ground, a hot at all times, and a power to fan on the relay. Which pretty much means that it ran all the time if the key was on. If I were in your situation, I would go through the current circuit and check everything before I went to the trouble of making a new one. It's been my experience that electrical problems are rarely as complicated as the people having trouble with them first expect. If you go through this forum, you'll find an imense number of threads that end in "Hey you guys, this whole time it was just *easy fix here*!! I can't believe we didn't think to check something so simple!" because people get into these habits of only looking for complicated things, since fixing a car can never be easy *coughbull****cough*. If you do that, and still can't find it, I'll give you a step by step, fully detailed description of how to build the switch circuit.

or you could just buy a new electric fan for around $150; just make sure it has the right cfm for you car. just rip out all the old wiring harness for the old fan. then just ran some new wires from the new electric fan to under the steering wheel, and just put a switch there. every time you start your car just flip the switch to turn on the fan. problem solved, thats what i did.
Uhh... You know that a new fan motorfor these is only lik $75, if the car even needs it. It would be stupid to buy a fan it doesn't need, especially when every alternative is so much cheaper.

I have an aftermarket dual fan in mine that comes on as soon as the key is turned...its nice sometimes...annoying othertimes. Id say run a toggle switch for it, but make sure to think about it when you need it.
Nah, if it were that easy, I wouldn't be doing it for a living, I'd get too bored. I'd have ended up as an electrician, or a plumber, or something along those lines, and built cars on the side. You gotta get some grease on yourself once in a while, otherwise, it's just not any fun.
