Default exhaust fumes?

Quick question, What would cause a car to have strong exhaust fumes? My car just started having really strong fumes and was wondering what I should check.

My first GUESS would be a rusted out exhaust system. Reason: that is where exhaust leaks are from. So get under the car and look or get it checked out.

check the seal to the trunk or hatch back. also when your under there checking the exhaust look for any holes in the floor or any other underparts that would let exhaust into the passenger compartment.

Thanks for the answers but I didnt mean fumes inside the car. I just mean strong fumes overall. I am worried more about the people who have to ride behind me. If I pull my car into my garage and turn it off or if I let it run outside and stand at the rear the strength of the fumes stings my eyes and it hasnt been this bad until recently. I am worried also there might be something I need to fix. It seems to be way stronger than it should be.

have your 02 sensors ever been changed? in my opine they should be every few years, 5 or so. could also be something else, what kind of mpg? every have the car scanned for codes?

Doubt he has O2 sensors, or a computer for that matter craby.

Weather is changing, meaning it's time to adjust your carburetor. It's running rich, that's strong fumes. Adjust the air/fuel mixture and you should be good to go.

typicly if its burning your eyes its rich. i notice it one cold start up on my dd and beater and i know by smell when the engines reach 150* and go into closed loop just based on the smell. neither of them have functioning emissions equipment
