Engine Speed***(RPMS)
Hey everyone, my brother and i got our 1989 Camaro yesterday! and we've driven about 150 miles already (hehe, couldn't stop) and on GA-400 and I-285, i noticed that even in overdrive, the car revs awfully high from what i'd expect. at 70-75MPH it was running 3000RPM to 3500RPM. Maybe its just me and what i'm used to from our other cars that run those engine speeds at 90-110MPH in overdrive. So i was just wondering if this is normal, or what, and to see what engine speeds ya'll are running at 70-75MPH. THANKS!!!

Even if the car had 3:73 or 4:11 gears (slim to none) the RPM's are still to high for the 700R4 in OD.

hey everyone, thanks for the replies! The car is an 1989 RS 305V8 w/ the 700R4 trans. The rearend has been changed, but not even the previous owner knows the ratio. Also, he had a guy in NC do some tranny work on it. All I know about that work is that it has a bumper kit on the 1st to 2nd shift that makes it shift hard, and if on the throttle hard enough it'll. Chirp the rear tires into 2nd. I'll ask him and see if he knows those peoples numbers so I could call and see what they did, because I don't like the engine running those speeds at that low of speed. Maybe I'll male a vid of it going through the gears so y'all can have a better idea.

Hey, I have counted the gears, and put it in non-overdrive, and then shifted into overdrive. Trust me it's going into overdrive. I think that the rearend ratio is just really high. I calculated it and the rearend would have to be a 4.69 for the engine to run those speeds. And at a steady 40MPH it runs ~1750RPM. I don't know what the deal is, but I hope to fix it soon. I don't want the MPG or anything else ruined by those higher RPM's when cruising.
