ok yea i have a 1991 rs with the 305 in it.
it will start up and once i get it going it will choke out like its not getting gas and then it will die and then i will start it up and die and so on
there is a new alternator in it good charge.
anyone have any ideas?

 

I am going to move this to the section devoted to troubleshooting. I will also give some suggestions...
Will it stay running if you give it alot of gas?
When was the last tune up? I think if you change out all the plugs, wires, filters, fluids etc... you will better be able to tell whats wrong.
My first thought is vacume leak, then fuel delivery.

 

Does it idle and just die when you touch the throttle? Have you changed the fuel filter? Can you do a fuel pressure test? Maybe bad regulator or weak pump.

 

how the hell did all kinds of people just, all the sudden get the tech certified thing? i come back and like, half of the posters have it..

 

I don't even know what it is. Is it some thing that any moron can get like an ASE Master Tech cert?

yea i just put in a new fuel filter.
it will stay running when i give it gas and sometimes when i let off the gas it will die.

 

from what i see it sounds like a fuel problem. try the fuel pressure regulator if you have good pressure to the lines. If not then it will be the pump most likely.

How was that filter flowing? did you try and poor any of the old fuel out?



as for the cert.. who knows.. lol

 

I had the same problem with my 86 304 4bbl. When you started it up it would idle but after you gave it gas and let off it would die. It ended up being my kickdown switch. I dont if you have one on your car but I would try that.

 

yea there was nothin wrong with the old fuel filter that i could c
i also put luces through it too and i think it ran for a while after thatbut i started it up today and it will run and run when its sittin there put once i start to drive it it will die after a while
