Default engine mount difference 305/350?

i was in the process of putting my 383 in today, and i cant get the mounts to line up. it looks like the bolt holes are about an inch out to each side, and it wont go down into place. the block that is for my 383 is a later model 1 peice rms. my original engine was an 86 305. is there a difference in motor mounts? im talking about the peice that bolts to the block, not the k-member

ok, so no difference in the block. how about the engine brackets? im pretty sure theyre the ones for my camaro, but could have been mixed up with the ones from my 85 c-20 truck. could that be the issue?

You know I swear that happened to me as well. It may be that the shells were mixed up. I thought they were side specific.

i checked out the mounts i have, they are the ones for my car. the engine going in is a later model 1 peice rms 4 bolt main. it should fit according to part numbers and the gm dealer senior parts specialist. i think i just need to try to get it in more level and loosen stuff up a bit

i think that your right dj. i do believe that they are side specific. that will throw it off an inch.

well, i did find out i have the wrong brackets. hm still offers the left hand bracket, but not the right. same with classic industries. i got a set from a co-worker, and these were definatly altered mounts from a truck and after a lot of work, did not fit still. im on ebay looking now, my only other option is a junkyard. that definatly wont be fun to do, but i know of a few who have what i need

I'm confused, what is the problem you're having? The mounting pattern should be the same for any SBC block, but the mounts themselves may be a little different. The mounts on my motor are from a 1974 pickup and they fit with no modifications.

I'm not 100% (99% though) sure that the drivers side of the block has a more rounded profile on the shell portion. for sure they mount on the block the same way, but if you mix up the sides, it is off when you like it up with the k member. I specifically remember splitting the shell removing the mount, switching sides mounting it up and problem solved....I thought I was crazy until I looked at a spare set of 3rd gen mounts the other day, they are indeed a different shape

the brackets that bolt to my engine are too wide. they dont line up with the frame mounts by about 2 inches. the k-member on my 85 c-20 was wider, so the mounts are wider. the part numbers for the bracket are different, however the frame mounts are the same. when i get the correct set tomorrow, ill show a difference between what i had, the ones i got from a coworker, and the correct set. the factory mounts allow the engine to sit lower than the truck, and the frame is narrower
