Default Engine does not fire until fuse is replaced.

1998 2.8L Fuse is located on the passenger side up front just beside battery. There are two fuses and the one closest to the rear of the car was a twenty but a 30 does not blow. What is this fuse for? The engine runs extremely rough. Distributor was set to # 1. no adjustment is getting it to run smooth. Idle is rough and back firing when throttled. Plug wires are correct. Seems like it is not advancing spark.

The reason fuses blow is because the circuit is overloaded. Putting in a bigger fuse does not fix the overload, but will allow the wires to overheat and possibling go on fire. Get a wiring diagram and chase the overload down.

This is my bosses car a 98 body with a 94 motor and computer.
My boss is a mechanic and he gave up on it. He wanted me to pull the motor. I checked the compression and all cylinders are good. Fuel is delivered too. I could not see pulling the motor when it fires and it ran well enough to circle the shop. Idle was rough. I figure if the motor turns over and it is not banging or grinding the problem lies in the distributor and ecm. As for the fuse I would like to know first what rated fuse is the correct one.

My mistake this must be an 89. My apologies. The motor clearly says on it that it is a 2.8L. I've looked at the body styles and this is a third gen.

im gunna go with z28pete and say you need a diagram something is wrong with the wiring and deff DONT put larger fuses in that can very well cause fires
