Default Engine Decisions

So I called my local shop trying to see what they'd charge me to swap a 350 in for my 305. He said for what its worth im better off just keping the 305. Apparently a good running 305 would take a 350 on the street anyday???? He said it wasnt as easy as just taking the engine out and putting the other one in. And I really dont know what to do.....any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks.

i agree. by a good running 305, hes talkin about dumping TONS of money into it. a 350 is a much better engine in my opinion.

If the car is carbed it should be no big deal putting in a 350. If it is injected the PCM will need to be tuned for the bigger engine, and may be the reason the shop is not interested in doing it.

It is just like swapping a motor. Even if you do not tune the computer and such for a 350 you will notice a differnce. It just would not give its full potential.
I swapped a carbed 305 for a TBI 350 in an 87 El Camino and the worse part was the painless wire harness that did not live up to its name. And I only used that harness because the customer got a harness with his motor for a 4L60E trans and he decided he would just get a painintheass harness.

yea definatley the 305 doesnt even come close to a 350 in power. go to another shop and talk to someone else their opinion will be different and it shouldnt be that big of a deal.

It's not like swapping a motor...motors are electric...cars have engines.

So then why do all the motors manuals have pictures of motors in them????[:'(]
And the engine is the thing that pulls the rest of the train cars
