Hi, I have an 86 Iroc and the check engine light is coming on again!!! The repair shop replaced the ignition module and coil. Worked fine for 2 days, then the light comes on again! Rough idle and stalling out when at the red light. Yesturday it stalled on me and the engine light stayed on. I shut it off and restarted-no light. Get going down the road and it flashes and then stays on till I turn it off. I drove it today several times...no light coming on. Took it to Autozone and they said it is showing a code 42 and 51. Not sure what to do. Please help. Thanks, D

51 is a problem with the chip. Do you have an aftermarket chip in it? It may be also what is causing the spark timing code.

 

Hi, I am not sure what kind of computer chip is in there. I haven't had the car long at all. It seems to be running fine and every now and then the light comes on and the idle drops and it wants to stall. Now I am shutting it off when it comes on. Then I turn the car back on, then it is fine again. Seems like the steering wheel is tugging as I make turns now. The power steering pump is going. But I never had a car that has tugging in the steering wheel before. Any ideas? I will look for a new computer chip asap. See if that solves the problem. I need to sell the car, but can't until I work out this engine light problem. Thanks, Dc

 

Go to a Chevy dealer and get a new MEMCAL chip, ($60-$80) it will have all the latest updates from GM. If you have a piggy back type performance chip in additionto the MEMCAL, get rid of it & the car will be much happier.
