Default cant seem to find my prom chip

either im looking at the wrong item, or its not as depicted in the haynes manual (chilton doesnt have a picture) everything is in the same spot, however the only chip i found was a long chip with about 50 or so connectors, not the little rectangle chip in the bottom. heres a picture to show what i found. is this it?

You are looking at the Prom (chip) in the ECM..

GM calls that chip the MEMCAL and it contains all the instructions for the ECM. The same ECM may be used in various model GM cars (up to 1993), but each application uses a different MEMCAL.

Slightly off topic, but are there still sources for MEMCAL chips out there? I am still running the stock one.

Stay away from Jet & hyerjunk. If you want a upgade and don't want to burn your own look up Ed Wright of fastchip.com. He has one of the better off the shelve Chips for 3rd gen cars.

the whole blue unit is called a memcal and the prom is inside the memcal. you can have the prom changed in your exsisting mamcal or you can have the prom inside the memcal reburned or you can get one of these, http://www.moates.net/g1-memory-adap....html?cPath=64 and get a prom thats tuned to plug into it. pcmforless sends a unit like the g1 with the prom soldered in. soloman uses the moats g1.

I have known to steer clear of Jet and Hypertech for a long time. Didn't know that Ed Wright or pcmforless offered these products. I have a pcmforless tune on my '94 Caprice at the moment. Mod money has been tight, so not a lot going on with either of my Chevys.
