My camaro drains my batterie over night, what are some of the first things to check?

 

Check the battery & alternator...First.

 

Batterie is brand new, i had to get a new batterie because the same thing happend to the old one, and after so many recharges, it died forever lol.

how do i check the alt.

 

probly the regulator inside the alternator. either have it checked or unhook the wire from the alternator overnight and if the battery stays charged then most likely thats the problem. if the bearings are ok u couild (requires taking alt apart) replace the regulator or get a new alt.

 

ok there is two wires going to my alt. i took off the big one that goes to directly to the batterie, but there is still one on the back of the alt(closer to the cab), its a thiner wire, does that one need to be undone too.

 

thats the exciter wire which could be were the juice is going. if u have a test light or volt meter hook the alt back up and unhook the little wire. with the key off see if theres power to either that little wire or the stud ie place were the little wire hooks to on the alt. if u have power to the alt connector then its the alt,. if u have power at the wire then u have a problem in the wireing or the switch. u should only have power at the little wire when the key is on. it excites the alternator into charge mode or tells it to start working.

 

Just go to Auto parts store that offer this FREE service and have them check the alternator.

if that tests fine, then what you can do is check other circuits for parasitic draw. if its doing it over night, i must be something pulling about 2-3 amps. disconnect the power side of the battery and install an ammeter capable or reading 10 amps and see what its reading with the key off. pull all of the fuses out and install them one at a time until you find the circuit that is drawing the amperage, and go from there. now the ecm (if equipped) will draw about .5 amps for KAM, so dont fool with that. it could be something simple like a bad door or window switch.

 

Ok well i let it sit over night with the alt. disconnected, and it started. So i guess i need a new alt.?
