HI, can anyone help recently bought myself a 91 camaro 3.1 rs convertable ran fine at first then started to run a bit lumpy & a strong smell of petrol & black smoke coming out of the exhaust she turns over & starts when she is cold still running lumpy after about five mins she cuts out & wont start again until she has cooled down. any ideas anyone!!!

 

EGR stuck open???

 

sounds like a stuck open fuel pressure regulator. you can check it, its located on the smaller line on the fuel rail, and has a vacuum hose on it. if there is fuel in the vac hose, its bad. also check the vacuum hose itself. if its broken or leaking, it will raise the fuel pressure, causing the black smoke, smell, and bad idle. a stuck open egr would make it lumpy, but wouldnt smoke or smell
