Default Buying a camaro

Hi, I`m new to this site.
I`ve just sold an 87 corvette and want to buy a 3rd gen camaro. I`m looking at around an 87 or 88. I`d really like a 5.7L but mainly because this is what my vette had and I know its a good engine. Is their a large difference in power and performance between the 5.0L and 5.7L? Also what common problems or features should I look out for and consider when buying a camaro.
I live in England but there is a large choice to choose from so I want to do some research and get the right car.

Any help/advice is really appreciated,

Thanks
Andy

the 5.0 is a dog plus if you want to build the 5.7 will produce alot more torque

I`ve seen an 88 5.0L manual. A website I read gives the 0-60mph at 6.7 seconds, which seems pretty good.

Any thoughts on the 5.0L manual?

The 305 (5.0) and the 350 (5.7) are both good engines but for different reasons. The 350 will give you alot of power, good torque but horrible mileage. The 305 has been de stroked and also has a smaller bore than the 350, it gives you better preformance than the 6 cyl and better economy than the 350 but lacks the power of the 350. It is kinda a general all around engine. Mated to the 5speed it will be able to break the tires loose but that will stress the clutch since you will be revving and dropping the clutch. My friend had a 88 Firebird with a carb 305 and I was really impressed with the engine. The 88 is the last year for a carb and it produced 10 more HP than the FI 305 did. The 350 in 88 was only available in FI. I personally would rather have the TPI engine over the TBI engine, it was better tunable and produced more power in either the 305 or the 350.

they made 2 5.0's from what I have read. Mine being the 2bbl carb. & the other a 4bbl set up? Just picked mine up today. I plan a full motor swap, the 5spd tranny is brand new thru out so I am going to add a 350/4bbl set up on it.

actually, the 305 and the 350 have the same crank-3.48" stroke.

i had a 305 tpi auto, and even with 2.73 gears, it would spin first and chirp second, sometimes spinning second depending on the pavement. i ran 255/60/15 meats, so there was plenty of traction to be had
