Buying a '91 Camaro - help?
So I am considering buying a 1991 Camaro RS with a v6 engine. It runs perfectly fine and just needs a little body work. What I am wondering is, from all of you guys that drive this car, what the gas mileage is. (Given that I do not "race" it down the street everywhere I go). I can get it for 850 and it needs to have the front driver side fender replaced (it's messed up bad) and the bumper eventually. Also, according to a mechanic, the hood scoop on it is 2/8 away from not passing inspections. So that would need replacing as well.
Is this a good buy? It would be a first car for me.
(Opinions on gas mileage?) I will drive it about 50 miles each week.
It has 141,000 miles on it.

where are you located? if you are in a state that uses salt mix on the roads look over the ENTIRE car for rust especially where the subframe meets the body of the car... trust me... i pulled the trigger on an 87 z28 without taking this into consideration and have a ton of metal work to do because of it...
as far as the fender being messed up you should make sure the alaignment is not messed up beyond repair, including the alignment of the frame of the car, i had a unibody framed car that i took an impact to the front fender from the side and it threw the frame out of whack, which adversely affected the handling of the car and wore the tires unevenly, so if this is the case you're going to go through tires more quickly than you would otherwise
as far as the gas mileage i cant be of any help... my 350 gets 10-11 mpg hwy...

Virginia, and there are a few rust spots but pretty small and few and far between. This car is just going to serve as a first, I will probably end up selling it in a year or so.
Well, I drove it and the steering is fine, the frame isn't damaged it's just the fender that is schrunched up. (The previous owner clipped another car coming around a turn)
The owner told me, as did many other websites, that if you drive reasonably, the hwy mpg is around 25mpg. Which isn't bad for the amount I'd be driving it.

25 mpg on the highway should be easily doable. The 1991 V6 model was rated 25 highway, and the 305 was rated 24 highway.
I once had 91 a few years back, with the 305, and 120k miles on it. On a road trip, I got 27 mpg while averaging 80+ mph.
