Default Buying 82 camaro z28

Hey guys I'm 18 and i would like to buy a camaro for my first car. I would like your opinions on the camaro I'm looking at its a 1982 z28. The body and paint is in great condition but the paint is chipping around the left headlight. The engine is a 305 it's carbureted has 135000 kilometers on it. Has new tires its got a 4.10 gear ratio and a new 1700 stall torque converter, the engine also has a aftermarket camshaft doesn't say what kind. The car needs a new speedo and seller says it needs a transmission line nut. The cars selling for 3000 dollars. Forgot to mention its a 3 speed auto.

I would appreciate any opinions or advice you guys might have, thanks.

A 305 with 4.10 ratio? I would get a mechanic to check the car out fully. Doesn't sound right to me.

I'll get it checked by a mechanic if I decide to buy it. On the ad the seller says it has a 4.10 ratio.
Would it still be a good daily driver with a 4.10? I don't plan on highway driving too much

Not with 4:10 it won't be. 305 are not strong motors as far as HP, so its interesting in y the po has 4:10 gearing. My question would be is it a 305 or 350? Was it a project that went south? I just find info to be odd to me. Just be careful

Wouldn't 4.10's give the car better low end acceleration?

But at the cost fuel mileage and top end speed. 4.10s are nice for cars that see more track time than street time. 3.23 or 3.73 are more friendly and don't sacrifice too much. If it's 305, get the price down or find a nice 350 you can buy and build up. The 305s are nice, but not really great for building up. '82 was a good year though as it was the lightest Camaro built with the exception of the first gens.

Correct to a point. That's still too deep for a 305. You will run higher in the rpm range causing poorer fuel economy. In city/highway, you won't be using power exerted by the drive shaft, instead it will be generating it. You would be using more power(gas) to achieve XXmph than 3.73 or 3.23

Unless you planned on putting a 6 speed with double OD in it, I would get rid of 4.10s.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I think I will buy a beater for now and wait for next year when I have more money saved and I will look for a camaro with a 350 instead.
