Well i finally got the money and this week i am buying a 1984 Camaro Z28 with a 5.0L v8 and a 5 spd manual. It's a carborated car, and its really hard to find parts for. the Brake system (everything except the lines) was put in new in 2002. i really want a new airbox, exhaust, and just all around tune up parts. my budget is 1000-2000 dollars, and i really cant find anywhere that sells '84 camaro parts. any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

as far as engine, its the easiest engine in the world to find parts for, small block chevy parts are the easiest and cheapest to find parts for and yours is a pre 86 so it makes it even easier, their general parts. as far as a air box, ditch it and just throw on a open air filter, u can pick up a very nice chrome one for $15 - 25 with the air filter. if your looking to do tune up, first things i would do if you wanna tune her up. new filters all the way around, fuel, air, oil all new, new plugs and wires.if the carb needs it ethier rebuild it or replace it with a new one, if its still in goodshape its never a bad idea to throw on a new return spring(i throw a new one on once a year just for peice of mind)check all the brakes, pads, shoes and rotors, 2002 is 5 years ago only thing that normally last much longer than that is the calipers themselfs. new tires if it needs it of course. as for exhaust unless you need it i wouldnt worry about it for now its quite easy to drop 800 plus on a exhaust system. then start checking things like the battery, hoses, etc any of the general where stuff.
as far was hard to find parts on your car, the things that are going to be hard to get for a decent price are correct body peices 82-84 z28's had front ends and gfx and they can be very pricey to get. but have fun with the car, you'll love it

well i found a friend who is a carborated car/Chevy SB guru. he recommended converting from 2 barrel carb to 4, and changing the intake manifold and headers first. he also found me a good msd ignition kit. he never said anything about fuel filters or oil filters, are they really that important?

YES, every new car i get i change all the fluids and filters because you don't know when they were changed last. for the price of the fluids and filters you just saved yourself from replacing the enging or trany or diff. don't forget the brake fluid and coolant ( don't laugh the brake fluid absorbs moisture and actualy boils when you do hard braking )

yes filters are the first thing you should do to any new car, especially fuel and oil, when i bought my camaro the fuel filter had been on there so long i had to cut lines to get it off. as for the coolant and break fluid, you dont need to replace them but you absolutly need to check them, usually brake fluid is in decent shape because not that many people do their own break work compared to all the retards that try to do the rest. what your friend told you, well thats what i would do if i knew the car was solid and the first things i wanted to do were performance upgrades, what i told you is things i would do first for reliabilty more than anything,
