best tire size
hi everyone, im new to this forum so still trying to figure things out. anyways i have an 87 camaro and im building a motor with about 500hp so i need a pretty wide tire in the back to hook up, i already have 15x8 rims and i was just wondering whats the biggest tire you can fit on the back with out having rubbing issues?

i ran a 255/60 on my 15x7 wheels with no issues. i am also on the search for a wider tire, and just about the only sizes above a 255 is a 275/60 and a 295/60. im not sure though if they will rub on the inside or the outer lip of the fender

do you plan to keep that rim size?
i run a 19" 295/30 on a 10" wide rim and had to only modify the wheel wells for my air ride system. when i had drag radial 18" 295/35's i had to be careful taking turns at speeds over 10 mph or the tires would rub.
make that horsepower before you claim it also... don't worry so much about your tires. you should upside to at least a 16" rim though with better brakes if it's a street car or it won't be to safe.

Dude, if you are building a 500 hp engine then you should be WAY beyond asking a tire size question.....just sayin......so fill us in. What are you doing to this engine, and what tire size do you plan on running? As stated above, if you go much beyond stock you will get rubbing issues.
