Default best compression for a 350?

i have an 85 z28 with a stock 350 with a 700r4 trans from an 84 c-10. i am lookin to add some hp to it. i am replacing the carb/intake/cam/rear/shift kit and am wondering what the best compression would be for a street/strip 350...i dnt care to much about gas mileage. any advice is appreciated.

The best c.r. is as high as you want to go, and based on what grade of fuel you want to pay for. I'm running with around 10.5:1 and the engine runs fine on premium. I even sometimes run half premo and half mid grade without any pinging.
