Baby justt died this fall, I don't think its to major thou
1986 sport coupe 350 carburated.
So I come around the corner on my way to work and mash the throttle. I start screaming down the road and I hear boom. (backfire) and the car dies. I push it a few blocks to work, and go in. I come out on break with a volt meter, thinking I fried a power wire, and she starts up! So I turn the primary jets down a 1/4 turn and shut her off. I leave work to go home, and I make it a block and she dies again. Push her into the lot, and call for a ride home.
Well when I got looking at her, I had no power in the cabin, and my light will not come on. The battery is fine ( I even charged it over night once), I spliced my fan whire and that worked. but nothing in the cab and she wont even think about turning over. I checke my fuse box and I got continuty there and some volts.
I could not figure it out and so i towed her to storage for the winter. Well I am going to have to look at her soon, and I am assuming its a melted power wire into the cab or the ignition. But was jsut wondering if anyone had any previous experince with the same problem and knew excactly where i should start looking

When I first got my 91 camaro someone had installed a security system. When I removed the security my car did the same thing. Go under the steering column and check to see if you have voltage coming from the orange wire.(at least that is what color it is on my car). I noticed that the wire had come apart when I removed the crimp holding it togather.
THX for the input guys, gave me a few places to start with. I will probably look at her at the end of Febuary since she is bieng stored in the next state over.
One question on the fuse box bolt, does that act as a ground or something? Reason I am asking is I have never heard of that before.

No, it just holds the two halfs together. the reason I brought it up is it could work loose and cause all kinds of ground/power problems.

Found the problem. The nut that the positive goes to on the starter was ever so slightly loose. I mean so barely loose that when I checked it in the fall it was fine, and when I checked it this spring it was fine until I kinda reefed on the wires.
