Default Any reason to keep running my heater core??

Ive completely gutted all my AC, cut the blower motor box in half and removed ALL the wiring for any HVAC controls in the car. I only drive the car on nice summer days so if the windows get a bit fogged I just roll em down a bit more. Right now the heater core is a vestigial organ. So I was looking at Jr.s engine pics on my previous thread and really like how clean the engine looks with no coolant hoses running from the waterpump and intake. I know the heater core can act as a 'mini' engine cooler to bleed off a few extra degrees of coolant temp, but Im thinking about just capping it all off. Any thoughts?

There's no need for it at all. Only time it's doing any cooling is when you use the heater. Just get two 3/4" NPT caps from the parts store (either in the help section or the cooling parts section, not sure which.)

Btw, you're right how nice it is without heater hoses. A couple days after those pictures I was forced to install a new heater core and hoses because my Camaro is my DD until snow hits. I would live without heat in a heart beat if it meant my engine looked cleaner, but the problem was I couldn't see out the windshield

Is this a race car only deal or what? You don't need the heater core but I kinda like having a heater and ac when I need it. My 92 rs is my DD so everything works, nice when your stuck in traffic on hot day to flip on air

Dude, I live in upstate NY. We have a brief period here we call summer that ranges about 70-85 degrees. If I need heat, Ill wear a jacket. If I need AC...well then smack me because I love the hot weather. (Honestly, I usually cruise w the T Tops off.) So yeah, shes a daily driver, in the summer, when its not raining.....

T tops suck when it's really hot out. Driving my Camaro around in South Florida SUCKED!! It would be 90-100 degrees every day after work, and after an 8 hour day in non air conditioned shop, it would be worse than hell every day driving home. I usually left the tops on because with them off (even with them on to a lesser extent) the sun shines through and bakes your head.

Me too. Well, kinda. I NEED heat, like I said it's my driver until snow hits. I need defrost in the morning up to 2 months before it's time to park it.

I'm also retaining the A/C box rather than installing an A/C delete box. I want the option of adding A/C, which I probably will do. Being an Aeroquip distributor, I can get stainless fittings and hoses at a good price, so it won't be the ugly factory hoses.

Well, like I said, on the RARE occasion that it gets above 90 here, I just enjoy it. We only get 2 seasons here in Syracuse, Winter and Construction.....The car doesnt seem to like heat above 90 anyways and starts to run real hot, but thats another issue. I cut my blower motor box back and actually riveted a small panel of sheet metal over the heater core hole. Lil spray paint and it looks fine.

you actually get a season for construction? ours seems to be 365 unless its raining. We get pretty cold here too. The last few weeks its been single digits and -teens with wind. Warmed up this week though, thankfully.
