Was sup everyone, I'm new to this site, and excited to be a owner of a 1987 Chevy IROC z28 Camaro, that I recently purchase, and need some advice on the maintenance of this classic. it is Holley carburetor engine and has 95k miles.

1.What oil should I used1 0w-30 or 10-40? I herd synthetic cause oil leaks to develop. and also the spark plugs? Should I use platinum ones?

Thanks, and God Bless!

30 or 40 weight wont make a huge difference. Check a manual or under the hood. The 40 is a tad thicker and may give better oil pressure. Plugs? Again, doesnt really matter. Dont buy all the hype about double plated super krypton plugs, you wont feel a difference.
Now get rid of those trumpets sticking out from behind the car......

Hey welcome to the forum. The 40 to 30 weight won't matter, but you will not want to run a synthetic oil, your right it will cause leaks because the oil pan on third gen is not made for a real thin oil. As for maintenance, during the summer you will want to check your oil at least once a week, and make sure your maintaining a steady oil pressure (if not you will lose power). Not sure of the condition of your car, or if this is obvious to you; but I will tell you anyways... make sure the radiator is flushed and cleaned, its common that there can be rust flakes in the radiotor (causing friction).
Hope this helps.

I hope you realize that Carb 350 ( may be the stock LG4 carb 305)is not Factory Stock. Also that car has NO emblems denoting it was a TPI car and I am inclined to guess he was sold a 305 IROC. My opinion, if it was swapped in or converted you are going to have a lot of of problems. For one...These cars were computer controled (ECM) nothing is going to work correctlly. I would worry a lot more about this car then the weight of oil to use. But again, I will state I think it is a 305 car unless I am proven wrong.

Addition note: If you want to know what Factory engine was installed, check the VIN number. The eighth digit is the engine code.
H...LG4 305 Carb ..(stardard IROC)This is the engine I think is in the car.
F...LB9 305 TPI (option)
8..B2L 350 TPI (option)

lol.. that's just stupid.

use standard 10w30 and go up from there if needed. synthetic is good if your motor started with it. switching isn't good.

as for plugs just get what's recommended. anything extra is a waste of money.
