Default 92 would not start (starter wouldn't turn)

I could not get my 92 tbi to start again. I would turn the key and the starter wouldn't turn. It has been raining BTW. I got home from work, and it started right up. I had this last summer after washing it at a spray car wash. Any suggestions?

did you verify in park as well as in neutral that it would not crank?

Also make sure that all battery cables and grounds are clean and tight. Check for 12 volt at the starter solenoid battery cable connection, should always have 12 volt. I am not sure about this car, but if the ignition key has a resistor pellet, make sure the security lamp in not lit.

I wiggled the shifter in park, and nothing. There is a red security light, I believe it is aftermarket is on and is constantly dimming/bright... as if the alarm is going off. I removed the siren under the hood a while back, and I had the blinking parking lights disabled. It just seems like "haley's comet". It comes around once in a blue moon, and mysteriously goes away. It does seem to be moisture related, but I have had it in wetter conditions, and it started fine.

So the factory security light in the dash isn't lit?

It is lit. It also is also dim/bright flashing all the time. I think I have had this happen about 3 times in 2 years. I now recall the starter not turning over, and I replaced the battery thinking I fixed it. I drove to a friends house, shut it off, and we got in the car and it wouldn't turn over. We took the battery to auto parts, and it tested to be going bad. I still should have heard the solenoid tic tic tic even with a bad battery.

Then it looks like you have a problem with your VATS.

If so, where would I begin looking? Why only once in a while?

Alright, it's the ramdomness that makes solving this difficult. How do I disconnect V.A.T.S? Also could it be a flat spot in the starter?

sounds more like vats. if it was a dead spot in the starter, it usually wouldnt start up fine afterwards. it would be every couple of attempts that it wouldnt crank, not 3 times in two years
