Default 91 RS as daily driver?

what do you 3rd gen owners think of having a 91 RS as a daily driver? and what gas mileage do you guys usually get? EPA says around 17mpg city and 27mpg freeway

I had a couple DD third gens, and overall I loved it.

Theres a few minor things I would do, like upgrade the cooling system and the fan switch to a lower temp one to keep it cool in stop and go traffic

that is a big yes on the cooling system. if you run into cooling issues, dont go with a parts store replacement as they suck. i did that and my temps went up because it wasnt as efficient. the fan switch is an easier way to keep the temps lower. i averaged 22 mpg with combined town and back road driving

I plan on buying my first car soon and I want it to be a DD (87 Iroc). What do you guys mean by a switch? Is it an actual switch? or is it like an electronic temperature sensitive switch I've heard about before? What is it for anyway?

Sorry to hack a thread here.

Bud if i was you i would just hard line the cooling fans into the ignition. So when you turn the car on they turn on. Then you wont have to worry bout them not turning on.

you can do that just make sure you at the min. put a fuse in it but i would run both a fuse and a relay as not to overheat the wiring.also a fuse is a easy swicth to pull when working around the fan and not have to worry about it turning on and taking a bite out of you.

I had a 91 a couple of years ago and drove it year round, yes even in the snow if I got caught in it. On a long road trip, I got 27 mpg while averaging 75~80 mph. It's not such a bad all-around car.

Those mileage estimates are right on. My wife drives a '90 everyday and averages 22 mpg. The temp. issues are correct as well. It's stock so she just turns on the AC and the fan comes on. In TX the AC is not an option, so it works out pretty well.

i drive a 91 camaro RS daily and its a blast.. mine has the 305 tbi RS also come with the v6. the v6 deffinitly has better mpg but you can't go wrong with the V8 its a fun car not very forgiving on any sized bump. but if you want a fun daily driver a 91 RS will get the job done. mine has never not started and starts when you turn the key the first time.
also how could you not want to get into a third gen every day nothing more fun then that.

hope this helps
