Default 91 convert Z28 Need help, no longer temp issue Please read

Hi all. I just bought this car and need some help. Here's what's going on.

Car starts good in the morning but idles high.

I can drive the car anywhere, but once I park it for 10 minutes the temp is above 220 and the car does not want to idle correctly. It will idle high and low to the point of dyeing. If I step on the gas pedal it wants to die.

Once the car cools down it runs good again (still idles alittle high).

My thoughts:

1. Temp sensor is bad ( car thinks it's over heating and shuts down as a safety option)????

2. Qacuum leak (but it runs great before temp rises).

I have noticied when this happened yesterday the temp was over 220 and I turned on the heat/defrost to lower the temp. Once it got below 220 ran good again.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Hunter

a tired coil will fail when it gets hot, ignition modual will also. sounds like you have a cooling issue somewhere as well, thermostat could be sticking, pluged radiator, are the fans coming on? do you have the air damn in place?

what craby said plus also check codes. Not sure if this car has EGR but it could be faulty. just a thought.

How can I check on thoses two items? Also please be aware I have no "check engine" light on the car. It does work when I start it up though.

Also note, I can hear the fuel pump "wine" when its starting to "sputter". I had it checked and was told it might have water in the tank and to add "heat" to the next fill up. I did this and still have the problem.

Also I had the regulator check and was told it was good.

Thanks.

does it have gas?lol. well you could have the ignition modual and coil tested but it would show good if they are only failing when hot. catch 22. if you have another gm product check to see if it has the same coil. if so interchange. i think some other gm ignition moduals are the same but not sure. you should be abe to do the paperclip trick to check for codes.

fans not coming on, missing air damn, failing thermostat, plugged radiator, leak in radiator or coolant hoses or air in system will do it. im sure im forgetting something.

UPDATE:

We can take the temp issue out of the this. Yesterday the car was at 110 degrees and ran perfect when idleing. When I ran the car about 20 was it started acting up again. Temp was at 130 degrees.

I did check the fuel regulator and it was fine.

Temp is good.

When it's acting up.... antime I step on the gas pedal it wants to die, if I let it idle it's ok for a little bit but then dies.

First thing in the morning I can let it idle for over an hour and its fine.

My guess: Fuel pump??? (even though I was told it was just replaced 4 months ago and I can here it running while idleing).

Any help would be great. Wife just threw me out of the house and I'm working on limited funds now and this is my everyday car.

Also if you have an idle please inform me on how to check it. While I'm going at working on cars, I don't know everything.

Thanks,

Hunter
