Exclamation 91 Camaro RS "overheating woes"

ok i have a RS i just bought, 305 V8. its my first camaro. the car runs fine but the fan doesnt engage. the only way fans come on is when i turn my ac on and then the car runs perfect. im assuming thats either the fan switch or relay. now when i turn the car off the heat gauge starts going all the way to hot, not while im driving tho, only once the car is off, from what i know about cars im thinking the thermostat. i havent had the chance to really look at it since we are having severe storms here... i am gonna go buy the thermostat, fan switch, and relay but i wanted to know if it could be anything else.

Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the thermostat, just to know what you have going on. But, that would have nothing to do with the fan not turning on, unless the engine isn't getting as hot as you think it is. What does your temperature on the gauge get up to while you're driving or idling? When operating correctly, the fan doesn't switch on until the temp reaches a little over 220.

well i know the fan isnt engaging on its own at all, only when i have the a/c on. the reason im changing the thermostat is that it runs and idles fine at around 180-190 id say by the gauge w/ the ac on. but as soon as i turn the car off completely i see the gauge go all the way too hot and im guessing the thermostat is stuck, like you said it doesnt hurt for $8.

check the radiator for one the other might be at the water pump. on the 93 theres a engine cooling modual in the radiator, a engine coolant temp sensor for the computer in the water pump, a engine temp sensor for the gage in the engine on the head i think.

I know this is late but what i did was went to orileys and bought a flex fan which is the new version of a clutch fan that comes on everytime the car starts i know exactly what your talking about with the electric fans i hate them.

Default over heating

put you a electric fan on it and be done with it ,put a manual switch on it and you can control temp your self. Those year camaros seem to have that problem a lot.Ninety dollar fix.

my car did that as well. me and my dad pretty much replaced the wiringharness before we found the dead spot and got it working.
