9 bolt rebuild
anybody know a good site to get a rebuild kit for the 9 bolt? if not it looks darn good as is, but i was gona go 3:72 or 70 or whatever messed up ratio this thing has. but i finally got the old rotors off. took almost a half a can of pb blaster and a 12 freggin pound sledge. but i got them off. lol the bolts holding the mounting bracket are soaking now. ill try and pull them off tomorrow and clean them up too. can i flip that one side 180 to make it face the rear without any problems? and obvioulsy install the calipers off a 89 instead. btw... hows the parking brake work on the 89 over a 88? still use the actual caliper or is it inside the rotor kinda like a drum?

1) For parts try Randy's Gear & Pinion.
2) 11.655 rotors will require different backing plates. (not the same as the 10.5).
3) Gear change to 3:70/3:73 is in question untill you state which series carrier you have now. Those gears require 3-series carrier. Present ratio needs to be 3:27/3:45. Check the stamping on the ring gear. A 2:77 ratio means you are SOL for gear change.
4) Parking brake cablesare also different and difficult to find. Also I can not recall the set up for the parking brake but it is different.

yea its a 3:27 ratio. i found that awhile back. i thought i had posted a pic in a different thread but ill do it again here. i may be able to get the parts needed through work if i dig enough. but if its to much im just going to replace the seals and put new fluids in and put it back in my car.i will be redoing the brake lines. i think i found the emergancy brake cable at my work for the car, but ill have to look again. its gona be a PITA to get those brakes it working it sounds like. i may just stick with the 88 setup for awhile then go with a really nice bear setup i can get through work fairly cheap ( from what it originally cost)

yea that was my thought to. for now i might just leave it since its such a PITA to get that done for these things. years down the road if i still have it i may go to a 12 bolt or something. btw, are these axels held in with c clips or are they a retainer like a 9"?

as for the gears. it may come down to cost. id LIKE to go with 3:73, but i do think that the 3:27 is a good mix between driveablility and performance.
i pulled the old rear out today. i tell you what, those brake cables are a pita.

I guess you don't know that 9-bolt & 10-bolt parts are not interchangeable. Also if you would read the Summit ad, itis for 7.500/7.625 dia 10-bolt gears for the 2&3 series carriers.No where is mention of thicker 7.750 dia 9-bolt gear in the 3:73 ratios.[sm=chairshot.gif]

But I guess what you don't know is that unless he were to have a 2.77, all gears from a 2.92 to 4.11 will fit since it will aready have a 3 carrier. I looked this up before with the help of a guy that is a rear end specialist. I had to call him for the name of the site again (9bolt.com, how could I forget that).
So if he were to start with the next lowest in a Camaro, 3.08, (not 3.27 as you stated) he could go up to any gear.
But I forgot. Because you black87, have not seen it, it does not exist.
