Default 89 GTA

okay i know this isnt a camaro but it has the same motor as a Iroc thr L98,so my question is and its probily been asked before a million times but i'm wondering if the smog crap can be taken off,it takes up so much room its crazy, how much can we pull off before it starts to throw codes, and how much can we change the timing, since its at 6degrees now and my motor in my 73 is at like 10 degrees, any imput would be very helpfull.

Thanks Tony

It has been asked many times before. The subject was kinda getting worn out.
To put it simply. If it has a plug and wires on it you can not remove it without throwing codes.
The timing will not throw a code on OBDI if its not set to spec.

then maybe it should be made a sticky then,so people like me dont have to ask it all the time. so the smog pump can not be taken off,not even the air tubes, what would happen if we took off the cat,and what kind brandoxgen sensor is the best.what else would wake this motor up so he quits losing to or budys 89 5.0

Removing the air pump is not going to wake anything up. It hardly has any drag to it. An alternator under a load and the power sterring pump has more.
And removing emission equipment is not legal every where because some areas do have testing so a sticky might not be a good thing. It could be misleading to those that don't realize they may need the equipment.

there is no emission check in our town, the reason we want the pump gone is beacuase there is no room to work under the hood cuase it takes up so much room.and i never said it was going to make a diffrence if we took it off, i was asking what would wake the motor up thats all. so can i take it off or not thats all i want to know.

Yes you asked about taking the pump off and waking up the motor. I just read that as you thinking that removing it would do. The pump can come off but if you have the valve that hooks to it by some hoses with an electrical connection then that most likely will have to stay.

no i asked what could be done to wake the motor up,it is the same setup as a 89 camaro with the l98, so it can not be taken off with out ses light coming on will it make the car run funny if we did.

The pump can be taken off. Just a valve that is hooked to a braket on the exhaust manifold can not if it has the electrical wires. It will may trigger a light but should not make the car run funny. The computers are also pretty good about learning and compensating for bad components to keep them running well.
