If those Heads are 333882 they are 76 cc truck heads from the 70,s and were not meant to be performance heads. They are the "Best of the Worst" of that Era. Also they are heavy and have NO induction hardened valve seats andhave a know history of cracking.
With that said you are going in your normal direction of engine building. Flack will give youthe right direction.

well about those vortecs. i had really thought about getting those before cause they are so cheap and i know they are a great head. however i really wanted to use roller rockers and they say they need self aligning rockers and i havent found a roller thats like that.. unless yall have?

The last time I spoke with a local machine shop about rebuilding/porting/polishing heads, they quoted me around 400 bucks. That was assuming minn parts. Start throwing in performanc springs and special seat cutting and the price went way up.

Ive been playing with the idea of a set of Summit heads, but I just dont have it in me to tear the engine down like that. By the time I get it tore down that far and invest that kind of money in it, I could probably get myself a 383 stroker.

Oh yeah, and then there's the fact that its 8 friggen degrees in my garage......[>:]

Vortec Heads will require a new intake, the bolt pattern is different.

What piston do you have in the short block ? Are they flat top? Has the block been decked? What camshaft do you want to run?

i got a set of keith black late 60's lt1 style pistons, slightly domed to make up for the loss from the valve grooves. Great pistons. I havent yet decided on a cam. this project is a SLOW at best project. but its getting done how i want it. The block is bored .060 over already and im still considering stroking it as well, but its a pain to properly tune a TPI stroker so ive been told. Any of you know the Tosto brothers? well they live down the street from me and i got a buddy who is pretty cool with them so im gona try and talk to them about all that before i decide 100% on that. Their is a lot still in the air with this project and only a few 100% things. Im sending the block in to get cleaned and decked but only if it needs it. i dont want to have too high a compression even though i can gain it back with a thick head gasket. Those pistons i think are good for like 11 with a 64cc head. i think.. its been awhile since i looked.

But yea i knew about the heads having a different angle with the intake mani, but i have found a manifold for the tpi that is for vortec heads, somebody even posted it in here if i remember correct. hmm...

Yep, I posted a link tp TPI baseplate for vortecs. If you have the bit of extra cash, go vortecs and the better baseplate. At the verty least, you'll get an excuse to buy a performance baseplate.
