So my 85 firebird with the 2.8 v6 seems really sluggish until around 2900 rpms it just Jumps and seems to get a lot more power and rev up much faster. Just curious if thats how the motor is or what

 

Your engine peaks with 135 hp@ 5100 rpm. So yeah, it's not starting to feel it's own till the rpm's get up there. Torque btw is 165@3600 rpm's. You gotta rev it a bit to squeeze some juice out of it.
You might want to look into installing one of these: Adjustable Power Band
