Gut the entire engine compartment and replace the motor mounts and go from there.

If it's a 400 small block it should bolt right in,same exterior dimensions as a 305/350 or any other older small block.
The flywheel is balanced differently on the 400 so your would need one of those but all else should bolt in like stock.
They also made a 400 big block (402") that came in 1970's trucks and full sized cars, same motor was called a 396 in SS cars from '70 to '72 ,just a 396 with .030 bigger bore.
It would be a major ordeal to swap in,same basic block as a 427 or 454.

if you have t tops be carefull about getting on it without additional support as it may twist the unabody. not sure if it would happen with the 400 but I have read about it with big blocks.

it should be one of the first mods to the third gens. The subframe connectors are a MUST for any third gen putting out more than stock horse power. Spohn makes a good set.

Like 350rs said, subframe connectors are a good idea. But the structural difference between a t-top car and a hardtop is zero. Take off the headliner on a hardtop and you will see. Just make sure the t-tops are locked in before you slam on it.
