4.3 vortec with th350 in a 1984 or 1986 camaro computer questions
I bought a 1984 or 1986 Camaro. I have a 4.3 L Vortec lying around with engine harness and computer. And a turbo 350 transmission. It should both up together properly. But I am just wondering if there is anything that would need to be done to the computer because there is not an electronic transmission. Or if the computer would even work with only the engine and non of the other parts? Or should I just get a aftermarket ecu? Would rather not if I don't have to.
Are you trying to use the TBI that was on the 4.3, or going with a carburetor?
If going with a carb, you can get a stand alone HEI distributor and not have the engine be computer controlled.
And yes, the T350 will bolt right up. The 4.3 is just a 350 v8 minus two cylinders

Just to be sure the TH350 was out of a Chevy V8? They did put TH350 behind just about every GM made. For a while GM even made bell housing that could take Chevy or the Buick/Olds engines. There where also TH350 behind the older 60 deg V6s.
You may want to look at a 4.8 V8 with the factory transmission. This allows you to buy everything you need right from the junk yard and since it is an LS in can easily find information on what is needed and and aftermarket support. In my area you can buy 4.8s for the value of the transmission. Around $500. They where very common in those work vans and work truck.
