Default 396 in my Camaro?

I've heard of a lot of people putting big blocks in their 3rd Gen Camaros. But what about the Transmission. Will it handle the power? And how much of a project is it? Somebody offered me a complete 396 motor out of a Chevelle to put in my Camaro for cheap. Thought I would atleast look into it.

if you get a 4 speed manual trans with it, go for it. if it doesn't have one, i'd recommend a TH350 or TH400 auto, they should be able to take the power

it would be a difficult project.. not a whole lotta room under the hood with a SB just imagine a BB.. you would need a TKO or an old 4 sp or a trbo 350 or 400 alotta options you could go with on trannys.

I think shnormo told me that the HP to weight ratio also wouldn't make it worh it....he's a very wise man...but if it's very cheap...like i got my 400 SB for ($200 for the whole car) then I would say go for it

Just the price of headers was enough to deter me. Unless someone knows where to get a cheap set all the ones I've found are like $500 and up. Then you'd probably still have to dimple them.

That is absolutely correct, the HP to weight ratio is NOT worth the extra money and trouble. I had the option of building a 402 BB or my 350. After much thought, I decided on the 350. Parts are more plentiful, cheaper, and it is easy to get HP out of.

also the weight of the engine drags the car down so any more power you do make the weight just brings it back to the same as a small block so why not stay with the small block if built right they make as much if not more hp than a b/b and alot cheaper
