Default 305 TBI to TPI

Has anyone on here done a TBI to Tuned Port conversion on a 305? I'm just exploring options for my car. One option that I have ruled out is keeping my 305 TBI, it's a joke. I thought about swappin it out for an L98 motor. But I was thinking if I built up the 305(TPI system, cam, headers, etc.) that it would be a respectable motor. I'm not looking to get 500 HP, maybe around 275-300 would be great.

Yea well bud im in the same boat as you. If you can drop a 350 in then just do some mods and youll hit that 275-300 hp range.I wouldnt recommend the tpi swap from the tbi it really wouldnt make much of a difference esp. for the money. These are the mods im doing so maybe you should too: get a full exhaust, muffler, high flo cat, ypipe and headers first. Then get some bigger gears. Then do the intake, get an intake, cam, and heads. With the cam you definatley need a new computer chip. And with new heads youll need a new fuel pump, and possibly injectors. After all those mods youllbe pushin 300 hp maybe a little over.

hes right, the 305 tbi is a dog. Get rid of it if the funds are available. You dont even need to do the upgrades he speaks of if you can fork out 2500 to summit, you can get a H.O. 350 pushin 330 horse... Its up to how much you are wanting to spend for a motor. But doing those mods only adds power, if done correctly... otherwise, its just a lot of money for minimal gain, match your parts together, dont just throw it all together.

TBI to TPI set up on the L03 is not going to worth the problems and work for a very small gain. Just to give you a idea, wiring harness, sensors, ECM, new chip and on and on. I went from a 305 TPI to a 350 TPI and that was workable because most everything was common to both engines. Nothing is in your case.

Yea after I posted that I started thinking a little more and I think I may just save up and get a crate 350. It seems easier and more practical for about the same price as getting 300 horses out of a 305 TBI,and it will be a brand new engine. Has anyone gotten a 350 TPI crate motor? If so how much and where? Thanks

if you're not in an emissions controlled state, then why stick with TPI? go with a nice carb setup instead.

No such thing as a TPI motor sold with that intake system. Unless you find a donor car you stillhave the sameproblem asbefore. Best thing would be to sell the RS andf find a good 350 car. I used the TPI intake system off my TPI 305 with a long block 350 crate.

Well my plan is to get a crate 350. My friend has some extra TPI parts from his Vette and whatever he dosent have, I can probably find at Corvettes at Carlisle, or maybe Ebay. I havefound some good stuff on ebay for really cheap, I just dont have the money right now. Last week I saw a wrecked Trans Am on Ebay with a 350 TPI, 100% in tact, and it went for $810. Too bad I don't 800 extra bucks or room for a 6th car.
